About Geneviève David
Geneviève David was born in Switzerland, grew up
in London, New York and immigrated to Sydney
18 years ago. She is bilingual French and English.
She did her Masters in Clinical Social Work
in Chicago where she specialized first in family therapy
working with children in play therapy, adults
in psychodynamic psychotherapy and families
in systemic theory. She also has considerable
experience working with groups in particular
parenting and relationship issues but also women’s groups and currently organizing a group for women around conception and pregnancy.
Her advanced diploma in Adult Psychodynamic Psychotherapy was completed in Sydney and she now specializes working with adults who have had either short or long- term problems with self-esteem. Either as a result of short or long- term stress, trauma, family and/or relationship issues. She also works with adjustment issues: to parenting including post-natal depression, work issues, and grief and bereavement. Often these issues lead to feelings of anxiety and depression and are often presented along with various addictions.
Geneviève believes in the fundamental interrelatedness of mind and body. And has no hesitation in referring for further diet and body-oriented work (ie. Naturopaths, acupuncturists, chiropractors and ortho-bionomists, physios etc.) in consultation with her patients if she feels this would be helpful. Although evidence- based research shows that working in psychotherapy can greatly ameliorate levels of stress and therefore improve health.
Her current interest is how Buddhism and Psychotherapy can inform one another. She has finished a world first two-year diploma exploring how Buddhist’s 2,500 year old theory of mind and it’s practice can help us to work with depression, anxiety and other modern day struggles.
